OUR STORY
The Ship
Ashwin Blacke has captained Horizon's Edge for about five years. The ship is not the first to carry this name. Its predecessor met its end in a tragic accident that brought her down in Southern Thanalan. After Captain Blacke purchased the wreck, it was then scrapped down to the hull, rebuilt, and the name was transferred to the new ship.
The reputation of Horizon's Edge is one of shipping, transport, safe passage, and scavenging missions. The crew has a reputation for being a good group that works to keep Horizon's Edge afloat but will also help those in need. They aren't bleeding hearts, but it's clear these people have gone above and beyond. They have yet to fail at a job or delivery.
The Horizon's Edge is a mash-up of Eorzean and Garlean tech, giving it the ability to move faster, carry weaponry, and have a better internal system. With the upgrades, the Horizon's Edge is in constant need of upkeep and maintenance. It contains large open spaces for ship operations and boasts smaller cabins to accommodate a crew of thirty.
Her newest venture has her port-of-call papers registered to fly under the Limsan banner.
The Patrons
Lady Emeline Rajan and Lady Rosette Valeria, both women of influence from Gridania and Ul’dah, have been known to give their patronage to many charitable groups. They are also known for their management of a magical aid group based in Gridania. But now they have turned their attention to the people who are in more immediate need. After a year of planning and vetting, these ladies have assembled a stunning team of individuals with a proven airship record and those with a history of helping those in need.
The Mission
The Zephryte Initiative is an organization dedicated to preparedness and swift response to individuals in need. Whether providing medical assistance or deploying personnel to address various challenges, the Initiative leverages magitek, mysterious technology, and magic to ensure timely support and intervention.
The airship acts as a constantly moving base of operations from which teams are dispatched to provide protection, aid, or make connections to extend their network of beacons and contacts.
The Name & The Beacons
The crew of the Horizon’s Edge is a tight-knit team of people from all walks of life who are focused on the mission of the Initiative: to respond with aid when called. The team spends its days answering aid calls and working to extend the beacons, also known as the Zephryte Network. The ship is continual need of upkeep and maintenance, so missions and securing more patrons and provisions are a must. There is never a quiet moment as there is always a task that needs doing.

Combat: We are considered a medium to heavy combat FC with a dedicated rulebook. We run our combats in turn order style, while other RP is open and storyteller style.
SEEKING
Mature players: Zephryte Initiative consists of older players with professional careers. Most of our activity is in the evenings (EST). We seek like-minded older players here to play a fun game.
Characters that are current with the Dawntrail lore and can access most of these locations. Sometimes our events take place in higher-level zones, including Dawntrail. Applicants received who are not at this point in the game will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Mains are preferred. We want individuals who devote their time as their main and wish to invest in a collaborative RP FC. Alts will be considered if play times are applicable.
No wallflowers. We want people who love communities and want to interact and roleplay. If an applicant isn't willing to jump in and take the initiative, this won't work out.
We are a mostly lore-adherent FC, but we focus on a lot of magical-based encounters. There are some fantastical events and bending.
No Padjal/No WHM Job stone (ie drawing power from elementals)
No Void - Reaper's only allowed if the "pact" is with an approved alternative
A QUICK BACKGROUND
In Character:
The crew of the Horizon’s Edge is a tight-knit team of people from all walks of life who are focused on the mission of the Initiative: to respond with aid when called. The team spends its days answering aid calls and working to extend the beacons, also known as the Zephryte Network. The ship is a source of constant upkeep and maintenance, so missions and securing more patrons and provisions is a must. There is never a moment when a task must go unfinished.Out-Of-Character:
Welcome! Behind the scenes, Zephryte Initiative is a friendly group looking to enjoy the game and rich lore background of FFXIV.
We wanted to create an FC with a deep background and a greater responsibility to the world while helping a player explore their personal story.
Inside Zephryte Initiative you will find a a ship filled with camaraderie, inclusive RP, and an organized leadership core.
Our OOC space is filled with friends who utilize voice channels, share their stories, upload pet pictures, and help organize events.
For more information see the 'Our Story' page.

APPLYING
Our Recruiting Officer is Ashwin Blacke (Discord simplymabh).
Please allow 48 hours for a response, especially on weekends.
An OOC interview will be scheduled before an IC interview.
The average application time from the beginning (application received) to the end (IC interview) is about 3-5 days depending on schedules.
POLICIES
By joining Zephryte Initiative you agree to follow the Square Enix/FFXIV Agreements and the policies listed below:1) MOST IMPORTANT RULE: Real life comes first. No person should ever feel that the actions or events in the game come before things away from it.2) No Bigotry: Hatred and Phobic words WILL NOT be tolerated. Our community is comprised of many different people from many different backgrounds. We do not want any member to feel shunned or ostracized purely based on their race, religion, orientation, gender, sex, or cultural background. We designate this as a safe space away from the dumpster fire the outside world can be. Respect the space. Violating this rule will be instant removal from the group.3) No Drama: While drama in-character is fun, it is not OOC. There’s nothing that ruins the fun of the game more than drama and lack of communication. Going further by undermining a person, name-calling, gaslighting, stalking, or other such drama may be construed as harassment and won’t be tolerated. Don’t do it.4) Activity: We wish to make our intentions clear about attendance in Zephryte Initiative. We seek individuals who participate regularly in RP/PVE/PVP. Real life comes first, but our applicants should have a love of the game and be looking to participate in a story and a community. All these require a person to be active.
People that go inactive without reaching out to the FC Leader will be removed after 45 inactive days.5) Public RP: As a member you carry the FC’s tag. We ask members to always be aware that their public actions can and will reflect on the FC. Being a member of an FC means that you agree to take on the representation of our community.
This includes your OOC actions, participating in IC public acts, and communicating in PVE/PVP. Your actions dictate how we are seen as a whole.6) Harassment: We have a zero-tolerance policy. If a member feels that they’re being harassed in any way, be it sexual, spamming, or repeated unwanted contact then they are asked to report it immediately to an officer. If it is found intentionally malicious or extreme, harassment will result in dismissal from the free company.
In regards to mild offensive conduct (“Drama”) we ask members to attempt to resolve it first, making the offending party aware they have caused discomfort.
If the mild offensive conduct persists contact the HR officer. It will then follow our resolution process. Mild offensive conduct can result in mediation, demotion, and/or dismissal from the company if found to be extreme or unresolvable.7) The IC/OOC line: We are not our characters. By joining Zephryte Initiative you are expected to acknowledge the line between In Character and Out of Character. There will be IC drama and intrigue. OOC we are all friends who laugh and encourage each other for stable roleplay behind the scenes. Members who are unable to maintain these lines will be given a warning. If the behavior continues after the warning, you will be removed from the FC.8) Alt Characters: While we prefer a member’s main to be their player character, we accept alts. A player who has been a member for more than 30 active days may have one alt IC character in the FC, with leadership permission. This does not include NPC's used for plotlines.9) The Unrealistic Clause
We define Unrealistic as the following:
A character whose implausible talents, abilities and/or relationships with major and/or minor lore figures within FF14 create a disparity between what a character may reasonably be capable of.
Zephryte Initiative will not grant membership to unrealistic characters. If leadership feels that any aspect of your character’s background or abilities, even if minor, is Unrealistic, we will ask you to modify the concern to within reasonable ranges. If those modifications are not made, membership will not be granted. All policies pertain to In-Game and Discord.
DISCORD RULES
There is no discussion of politics or topics related to hot-button events. This is an oasis of escape. We encourage you to reach out to friend’s and community members if you are in need of support, but keep the channels clear so this can be our own little pocket where the real world does not matter.
An officer has the right to end any topic or ask a member to leave the discord voice channel at any time. No questions asked. Failure to listen to an officer’s request will result in a warning. Repetitive warnings of this nature may result in dismissal from the Free Company, following our regulations process (communicate -> Three Strike Evaluation) .
Use the correct channels and utilize spoilers.
We have an NSFW channel, use it. It is meant for posting items that cannot be viewed while at work, or for more risque topics.
If you feel a reply or topic starter might be too close to breaking the politics/harassment/bigotry rules, don’t post it.
Our HR reporting rules can be found HERE
HR Regulations For NEW FC
Sexual Harassment/OOC Threats with documentation = Instant removalHarassment: Clear repetitive attempts at making someone uncomfortable
Each situation will be reviewed as a case by case basis.
Three Strike Evaluation:
i. Warning (1st interaction/intervention)
ii. Mediation (2nd interaction, sit down discussion with both parties)
iii. Removal (Letter of Dismissal for the Aggressor)We encourage screencaps, copy/paste of time stamped conversations both in game and out of game. Evidence is needed in order to act, sometimes. Depending on the severity of the harassment (ie: sexual harassment, racism, OOC Threats, bigotry, etc) will be reviewed at time of submission and the Three Strike Evaluation can be elevated to instant dismissal at the discretion of Officers and Leadership.Member ExpectationsIn the event where a member is bothered by something, we ask you first try to to discuss the issue (e.g. an offensive joke/language/comment - NOT harassment). More often than not, people do not realize they have offended someone or made a hurtful comment. We ask that you start with addressing issues privately. Avoid doing this in front of other members via public channels, including discord voice, text, and in-game chat channels (such as FC Chat). Addressing a problem in a public channel in a manner that is reasonably perceived as aggressive/upsetting/extreme (a “call out”) may result in a warning being issued and Three Strike Evaluation initiated.
If someone does make a hurtful comment, unintentionally or not, it is reasonable to state "can we change the subject?"/"please drop this subject"/etc. in a public channel. Further follow up to that statement should only be done in private channels.
This applies to both affected parties. If you sense you have upset someone, or if you have become upset, both are encouraged to reach out. Be respectful. In the event the discussion/private resolution is unsuccessful (i.e. received poorly, problem continues to occur), please contact Rosette to set up a Mediation Voice Call. The HR Officer and another member of leadership will always be involved with Mediation. As text is easy to misconstrue, tone quickly subject to misinterpretation, Mediations must be done through a Voice Call. Members do not have to speak on the call and may still use text, but voice allows an easier method of clarifying intention and officers can verbally clarify and better guide the Mediation.Every warning, mediation, and/or complaint received will be documented by the HR Officer. These will be kept and reviewed periodically as situations arise, previous indiscretions will be taken into account. Repetitive offenses may result in disciplinary measures up to and including FC Dismissal.Policies for Submitting Complaints
Anonymous submissions will not be accepted unless involving sexual harassment/OOC Threats with clear evidence (ie: screencaps). For all other issues, if we are to accurately resolve a situation to the fullest capabilities and ensure that members continue to co-exist in such a small community, both parties need to know and be actively involved in remediation. Retaliation from either party will NOT be tolerated. In regards to the FC Policy of “Real Life Comes First”, we ask for 1 or 2 days to be able to review and respond. We will respond as soon as we can, but Real Life schedules can be demanding and this is not our IRL job. We ask that you remove yourself from the situation, have no contact with the person you are having issues with and continue to document any negative interaction from them. Do not instigate, do not respond. We cannot control involved persons logging in to the game or voice chat, and we expect members to do what is appropriate to prevent further escalation of issues. If a conflict should arise with the HR Officer that requires further assistance beyond the initial “reach out and communicate” process, a member of Leadership will mediate the issue to prevent a conflict of interest. A member may inform another member of Leadership of the initial reach out communication.Elevated Action: If you need immediate intervention, please contact the first available member of Leadership you can find. An Elevated Action includes the following:
--A situation where you feel you need IRL Law Enforcement intervention (ie: stalking, OOC threats, etc).
--Someone has told you that they are planning to take their own life.
--You are thinking or planning self-harm.It is important to understand that we are not licensed therapists or counselors. We expect every member to conduct themselves reasonably. We understand people will have bad or moody days and personal things that may make nerves more sensitive. As friends we can lend an ear to stressful situations, with consent, but we can only aid so much. Please understand that a mental health diagnosis is not an acceptable excuse for harmful behavior. If disruptive, aggressive, or abusive behavior happens, it will be subject to our regulations. Ultimately you are responsible for your actions and will be held accountable for them.
WELCOME TO SCHEDULING
All FC events are posted in our schedule-events channel on Discord. This is done with the use of the handy-dandy Apollo bot to allow for easy scheduling and sign-ups. If you wish to attend an event simply click the green checkmark below the relevant post and your name will be added to the list of attendees. If something comes up and you can no longer attend an event you have signed up for, you can just click the check mark again and it will remove you from the list. Easy! We ask that you pay attention to the various labels and descriptions listed on each event before signing up as not all content is appropriate for all characters and players. This is not intended to exclude people from events, but to allow our players to make informed decisions regarding the nature of the offered content. We want everyone to have fun!To get an event added to the schedule channel, you simply need to submit a request to Draza to be posted. THE HORIZON'S EDGE
Welcome aboard!
This document will help break down the ship room uses, quirks, and details.
Exterior
The outside layman's appearance of the Horizon’s Edge is a sleek but jumbled collection of Eorzean and Garlean tech. It still hosts the merging of metal and wood to make up the hull, the upper remnants of the ceruleum bladder, and added external engines, plating, and weapons from salvaged Garlean ships. But to the trained eye, even from the ground, small hints of refined metal and purple lights can be seen—a sign of some new technology uncommon to Eorzea.
Interior
Entering the Horizon’s Edge, one finds what one would expect in an Eorzean-class passenger airship: metal external walls, lovingly decorated with a carpenter’s touch, simple and secure furniture, with the aid of the engineer team, and a personal style that matches the crew. The two main decks include the community areas, bridge, offices, officer quarters, and standard crew cabins. It’s important to note that just past the crew quarters (personal rooms) is where immediate access to the med bay, library, and bath can be found. On the third and lowest level are located the cargo hold, sparring room, mechanical rooms, and engine room. The ship is kept tidy, organized, and in safe working order. Throughout the ship, one will find safety instructions marking the walls of important locations. As part of the more recent overhauls to the technology on the ship, the Chief Engineer has focused on the safety of the crew while the ship is in flight. Looking around, one would find many handholds built into the walls and more permanent fixtures in every room. Furthermore, there are well-marked yet well-blended compartments in various locations throughout the ship that contain belt harnesses, allowing the crew to clip tethers from the belt to various metal rings that also dot the ship's interior. All crew members are trained in the use of these safety measures, and using them is second nature. While these hard points are checked regularly, the sheer number of securing devices on the ship is the responsibility of the whole crew to monitor and maintain.
Entrance
The entrance is located at the front of the ship under the Bridge. The loading dock attaches to the large, reinforced metal doors. A row of gliders and parachutes for evacuation are along the' gang plank' before getting past the doors.
Inside the small vestibule are lockers and someone waiting to take any cargo or store personal items.
On the wall is the original wheel from the first iteration of the ship. It is kept there for good luck. Removing it would be seen as disastrous and inviting ill omens.
Here, L’ahahi Dawnsroad can be found, ready to take in cargo, guests, or answer questions.
Game Room
This room contains a pool table, a dartboard, and a triple triad table. All of it is secured down. The pool table has a switch that, when flipped, magnetizes the balls, locking them down in times of turbulence.
Parlor
This room is reserved for guests and is the cleanest room on the ship. Not to say that the ship is dirty, but this is where fancy meetings happen. There is also a well-stocked bar and a small stage for entertainment. Most of the furniture and the liquor are secured. Most. Hopefully you aren’t sitting on a piece that was forgotten about.
Kitchen & Mess Hall
The kitchen of the Horizon's Edge is a well-appointed galley run by Jasper Greybluff and the assistant cook, Mayhew. Containing strong elements of Eorzean design reminiscent of what one might see on a Limsan ship, the ship does have a clear emphasis on modern improvements. The tell-tale touch of Alexandrian tech shows in odd places, an obvious sign that Engineering Officer Io has been working on updating the space. Modern ice boxes, fire crystal-powered ovens and stoves, and a coffee station built into the counter all provide the crew with access to a surprising amount of luxury.
Being on an airship, however, there are some quirks to the kitchen. A clear sign posted in just about any open wall space reminds all members of the crew that if you aren't using something, it must be secured, and there are latches, safety fastens, and restraints to keep knives from flying in the event of active maneuvers. The tables are bolted down, can be further chained down, and there are plenty of places to secure a safety line.
Beyond the kitchen and within sight of the game room is the mess hall. Four massive tables and benches are secured down. A heating element rests against an outer hull wall to fight off the chill. There is always some form of food and drink out for the crew.
Quatermaster's Desk
((Estate servant not IC))
As you leave the parlor, you will enter an open room with a large desk and wall cabinets. Here you will find Kriv Anatalyasch, acting Quartermaster, hard at work with his assistant, Duncan Kayde. To call the space 'organized chaos' is perhaps an affront to organization. In truth, everything is carefully organized according to a system jointly designed by Kriv and/or Duncan. This means that at any given time one may not know how to find everything, and is the source of many a good-natured(?) argument between the two.
Despite the logistics of it all, here is where all the cargo is logged, books are balanced, and hard fiscal decisions are made (dreams killed). Important note: Do not sit in Kriv’s seat.
Engine Room
The first thing you will notice when descending the stairs that lead into the engine room is the low droning hum. The constant running of engines are steady, and send a baseline vibration through the ship that is noticeable to those new on such a vessel but becomes normal and even comforting to crew of the Edge.Once you reach the room proper you are greeted with a massive engine compartment that is the beating heart of the ship. To the untrained eye it appears as a maze of twisted metals, gears, pistons, and pipes that all somehow seem to work in concert. However, to those who know technology they would see a baffling blend of Eorzean and Garlean engineering interspersed with something new. This new technology and material seems to work seamlessly with the rest though its aesthetics clearly show that it was something that was added later. This is the space where you will most often find Chief Engineer Io Kunzite who has issued strict orders that if you don’t know what you are doing, don’t touch anything down there.
Weapons Lockup
In the central hall, there is a locked blast door. Behind it are extra weapons and armor stored for easy access should an emergency occur (forced boardings, fights on the ship, bill collectors). Most are encouraged not to walk around the ship with weapons for safety.
Crew Hub
On the other side of the stairs in the central hall is the crew hub terminal, a designated space for crew personal communications, research, and letter writing. The hub is linked directly to the overall system and, with proper credentials, can access the ship's terminals.
The Bridge
After ascending the stairs, you are met with a two-entrance bridge. It is equipped with a mix of traditional Eorzean tech, Garlean upgrades, and a strange purple hue from some tech that the crew refers all questions about to the Chief Engineer. The chairs are for the Captain and First Officer (Mate), while the two consoles below are interchangeable for weapons and engines. To the side is the communications panel, and three monitors on the other side provide constant data about the state of the engine and ship metrics.
Navigation
To the right, at the top of the stairs, is the navigation room where officers plot the ship's courses. Updated maps of the known world, manually written ship logs, contacts, and ship manuals are all stored here, as well as aetherical cylinders used to power older tech and a small tomestone device that can communicate with the Captain’s chair on the bridge. Projects are constantly left out on the tables, and the sound of paper and pens skittering around is common.
Meeting Room
Up the stairs to the left is the meeting room, a very casual place where missions and jobs are reviewed. The hub there is connected to the main system. Be careful; the benches aren’t nailed down. There might also be a bit of a trick to the room if you go looking.
Cargo Hold
((Company Workshop))
At the rear of the ship are the cargo hold and the rear doors. This space serves several purposes. The first is to hold large cargo that cannot be processed through the front door. The second is to accommodate a few stable stalls for animal transport and care. The last feature includes two large gunnery ports on either side. Most of the team's missions deploy from this area by either mounts flying the crew to the ground, or the ship
In The Halls (Private Rooms)
Med Bay
((Private Room: Jacqueline Page))
The ship's Medical facility, run by Jacqueline Page, is stocked with cutting-edge technology, modern and aetheric medicine, plus a wide variety of alchemical and aetherical reagents.A wall of filing cabinets holds the crew's medical records and paperwork, while the desk is cluttered with medical texts. To the right is a serene seating area featuring an aquarium with a fish known for its judging gaze.Four fully stocked treatment rooms feature white curtains, triage, and basic surgical equipment. Each room includes a comfortable bed, a stool, and a variety of clothing sizes. A painting by Dr. Page adorns the wall, and the rooms are impeccably clean, infused with the scent of cleaning agents and lavender. The loft features wide windows, plants, and storage boxes, with a hidden cot and neat toiletries behind the wall. Access is via a remote-controlled mechanical ladder. An on-call physician can rest here when needed. At the far end of the room, beneath the loft, is the Surgical Suite, accessible only to healers and surgeons. It features the latest surgical tools organized beside the table and an alchemical station stocked with supplies for custom medicine. A mix of aetherical and non-aetherical tools is stored here, accompanied by the hissing of heat pipes and the rumbling of the Ship's engines.
Sparring Room
((Private Room - Rosette Valeria))
An austere room with few embellishments, with a sunken-in fighting ring and raised edges for folks to keep their skills sharp. Cases with a variety of practice weapons are available for easy use, as well as basic first aid supplies to be used. The floor and walls are white to be able to clean the blood better.
Workshop
PENDING
Library
((Private Room: Gawain Fjrnson))
These quarters are filled to the brim with the wealth of knowledge. Books range from introductory encyclopedic subjects, deep delves into arcane research topics, stories for casual reading, and more! It is open to all who look to tomes of paper and ink to research their desired topic. No, don’t think too hard about how these books may be tossed around during turbulent travels. Or how much effort went into counterbalancing this room. The library also serves as Executive Outreach Liaison Officer Gawain’s office space.
Bath
((Private Room: Elrickt Auvoe))
Perhaps the person who was put in charge of retrofitting a bath-house for a crew of different personalities knew that the solution was... diversity! The bath-house contains a traditional soaking tub, a standing shower, and a graceful claw-footed tub with a shower wand. There is also room for supplies and armor in the lockers near the front of the room.
Boiler Room
((Private Room: Geth Stormwind))
Ever wonder where Geth goes or how the ship pushes heat up through the ducts? Well, here you are. The ship and its personnel are not responsible for incidents involving stray tools or empty bottles. Please see the med bay for tetanus issues. Mind the ladders.
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
There are two entrances/exits on the ship: the front entrance and the rear bay doors. Both are equipped with gliders and parachutes as needed. If an evacuation is called, all passengers and crew are to proceed to one of these two areas and follow the instructions of the officer in charge for proper deployment.
